Sew...Cute!!

When I was little my mom used to make all of our clothes...most of which were matching outfits for my sister and I. My mom amazed me with her ability to sew! This is a picture of my sister and I in April 1976...I was 3 and she was 6. Are we just precious?
When I had to sweet girls myself I started sewing matching outfits for them...boy I sure miss those days. This is Lauren and Brooke when they were 3 & 1. I made these little dresses with the matching headbands for them. I just love looking at these precious little girls! Think they would let me make matching outfits now that they are 13 & 11?  Doubt it!!

How about you? Do you sew? Did your mom make your clothes when you were little?

  1. Can't resist had to comment. My mom made all my clothes and always told me that girl clothes were easier to make then boys and since I had two brothers I got all mine made. I went through a period where I hated it and then begged her to make me more because it was cheaper. She made all kinds of things and currently is doing some curtains for Jackson's room. Her machine is even at my house and I can't sew. Oh, I am sure I could if I put the time into it but just don't. And on another note my grandmother knitted and made sweaters for all of us. She was great. Truly a lost art. She taught me to do scarves when I was little. She was always sitting and knitting when I went to see her in the afternoon or cooking. When she found out she had cancer she knitted a blanket for John, mine and Lance's first born child. Little did she know I would have two! Somewhere mom found another one and I have one for each of the boys. Thanks for making me remember this wonderful memory! I was fortunate to know both grandmothers and all four great grandmother who were wonderful women of God (won't talk about the men :) ) Have many pics in the homemade outfits. Also, my mascara is on so stop making me cry!!!!!!!

  4. Oh my gosh! We must be about the same age! I think my mom had the same pattern. She dressed us all up for the big BICENTENNIAL in 1976, in dresses she made. I'll have to see if I can scan a pix next time I go to her house!!

  5. I LOVE those dresses...I'd like to have one!!! :) Yes, my mom sewed my dresses...often for Easter she would sew my dress to match hers. I have sewn in the past...but haven't been able to find time to do it now...but, having two boys doesn't really inspire me. :) If I had girls I think I might be more inclined to! Happy Easter sister!

  6. Hey Steph!! I read your blog sometimes, it's fun to see what's going on in your lives!! I can't believe how big your babies are!!! Time goes by too fast! I love your post today...so sweet! I'm not an expert seamstress, but I'm getting ready to start sewing baby Rowan's bedding. Now days you can actually buy it cheaper, but I think it will be so special for him to have something I made for him while I was waiting for him to arrive! I'm probably going to go to my grandma's house so she can help me. I'm not good with patterns and she has a better sewing machine!! :)

    Miss you!! love,
    Charissa

  7. I sew too! My mom had no idea how to sew, but made sure I learned from my Granny, my aunt, & my high school home ec teacher. A few years ago, I inherited my Granny's Bernina sewing machine (the one she taught me on)- what a treasure to me plus it still works great! Now, I sew cute towels for baby gifts, alterations, and for embellishments on my scrapbook pages. Probably won't ever get to sew matching outfits for my boys!! But I'm not ashamed to stencil cute matching shirts for them! Ha!
You've inspired me, I started my own blog - check it out! www.osuhall.blogspot.com Have a great Easter, we are out of town.

  8. I can honestly say, my mom did make us clothes growing up from cute smock dresses, jumpers and my favorite pajamas. They were always more comfortable and loved than anything we could buy in the store. It's made me want to do the very same thing for our kids.

Hope you stop by as I am hosting weekly giveaways now on my blog.

  9. I have been making Caleb a t-shirt quilt for like a year...I can only work on it while he is not here so it is slow go...I hope to give it to him when he graduates...tear...

my mom always made our halloween costumes and I did the same for the kids when they were little. And can I tell you that I use to sew Ashtyn outfits just so I could take pictures of her in them for themed scrapbook pages...I was totally nuts :o) The sewing does slow down as they get older though doesn't it. :o)
